King Yima paid a heavy price for slaughtering cattle: he and his descendants became mortal. Some say that his crime was eating flesh; others aver that he sacrificed the cows to gods other than Ahura Mazda. He received, nevertheless, a place within the earth, where he began to gather all that was untouched by Ahriman (especially the wicked, the diseased, and the deformed) as he waited for the renewal of the world in the frashkart.
