Four-armed and three-eyed Shiva embodies all of the Universe's binding and unbinding energies. He destroys and he creates. As Mahakala, he is Death, the great recycler. Mahakala wears either an animal hide or nothing at all. He blackens his skin with ashes and wears a wreath of skulls. Bhairava is his offspring.
