| Minos
Christian
Minos was a gold-loving, ass-eared king of Crete in pre-Hellenic days before Dante attached a serpentine tail to his posterior and sat him at the desk where the Damned souls received their lodging assignments. As he studied each sinner's record, Minos wrapped his tail around the unfortunate soul, once for each circle the defendant had to descend. His wife's son, the Minotaur, was assigned patrol duty in the region between the heretics (atheists) and the violent against neighbors. Various other unemployed Greek and Roman monsters and rulers received cozy sinecures in the Inferno, including the Medusa, Cerberus, centaurs, Charon, harpies, and the Furies (Erinyes).
