The vengeful "daughters of the night" who came into being when Kronos castrated his father and spilled the blood on Mother Earth (Gaia). They pursue evil-doers on earth and oversee their punishment in the underworld. They are three in number: Allekto ("she who is relentless"), Teisiphone ("she who avenges murder"), and Megaira ("she who is resentful"). The three of them run in a pack. Their gang colors include serpent headdresses. Patricides and matricides, especially, have much to fear of this trio: they wave torches and do not cease pursuit until they have run the sinner down.
