Christ merits His place here because of his role at the Last Judgement (Revelations 20: 11-15). John of Patmos tells us that physical reality will disappear as the dead are lined up before the white throne. Books will be opened and checked against the Book of Life. Each soul will be judged according to deeds. The wicked and those whose names are not recorded in the Book of Life for other reasons will be thrown into a lake of fire, the "second death". Like Osiris, Baal, and other Middle Eastern gods, Christ died and resurrected to earn this special dominion over the dead and the world to come. The reward of Heaven is reserved for those who believe in Him and repent of their sins. See also Mot and Amitabha.
