The undefeatable god of death, sterility, and drought. Mot slew the rain god Baal when the latter assumed lordship over the earth. Baal's sister and wife, Anat (a goddess of life), thereupon invaded the Land of the Dead and chopped Mot into little pieces. Mot remained disassembled long enough for Anat to rescue Baal and restore him to his heavenly throne. The war between the two continued until the Canaanite high god El intervened and persuaded Mot to accept Baal's supremacy.
