Sheaves

The harvest marks the death of a crop of grain. The grasses are cut down and gathered into sheaves. The parable of the sower whose enemy sowed his field with weeds (Cf. Matthew 13:24-30) applies here: the deceased or his relatives believe or strongly hope that his soul will be one of those saved in the barn, not burned with the weeds.

See wheat, barley.
