Ann Cooke Beauchamp had, only a few minutes before, stabbed herself to death. A few minutes later, a bleeding Beauchamp whose own suicide attempt had been less successful, was hung for the murder of Colonel Solomon P. Sharp, who Ann had claimed raped her.
