A female spectre dressed in gray, white, black, brown, or other sullen colors. They are said to be the spirits of women who have died of unrequited or lost love. Some are said to have been murdered for their passion. Legends of gray ladies have turned many an otherwise uninteresting country manor or rectory into popular tourist destination.
