The appearance of a blackened volcanic island off the coast of Iceland occasioned a christening in the name of this apocalyptic fire giant. According to the Norse, Surt will lead his hordes against the gods at Ragnarok, setting the nine worlds afire with his terrible blade, reducing everything to ashes. The earth will sink beneath the waves and rise again, green and renewed for a new age free of the barbarian bickerings between gods and giants.
