The sister of Osiris, Isis, and Seth. She was also Seth's wife. Her marital problems sparked the strife between her two brothers. Seth may have been unfaithful or cruel. He was, at least, impotent. Unable to bear Seth's child, Nephthys mated with Osiris, producing Anubis. The storm god went into a homicidal rage and killed Osiris. Nephthys left him and joined Isis in mourning the fertility god. She so became one of the watchers over the dead.
