The "queen of the ghosts" appears prior to great battles to wash the armor of those fated to die. She could assume many shapes, including that of a crow or a raven which hovered over the slaughter. War is where she recruits for her underworld kingdom: even her favorites must die so that they may become citizens of her dark country. See Bodhbh.
