The Supreme Creator did his best to block Death's entry into the world and grant us eternal life. He posted a goat and a dog at the crossroads where he expected the two spiritual essences to pass. Death was to be turned back and Eternal Life was to be allowed to continue. His sentries quarreled, however, and the goat left his post in disgust. The dog fell asleep. Death, who was wrapped in grass matting and tied to a pole (the way the Luba bury their dead) walked past the comatose canine. The next day, when the goat was on duty, Eternal Life was stopped and made to turn back.
