Specialists in Mayan mythology and literature call this ruler of Mitlan (the equivalent of the Aztec Mictlantecuhtli) "god A". Hunhau appears, sometimes with the head of an owl, sometimes as a dog. His provinces are the underworld land of the dead, the passage into the next existence, and death itself.
