The "blue hummingbird", a winged wargod who, in the form of the Sun, is born each day to rise up and defeat the legions of the night which we call the stars. Dead warriors join Huitzilopochtli in his battles, travel across the sky with him, and then, at day's end, stand by his side as he dies at the Western horizon. Four years after a warrior's death in battle, the spirit comes back to earth as a hummingbird.
