The grey underworld goddess who lives in a palace called Sleetcold. She is warden over a vast prison complex whose inmates -- the souls of those who met inglorious ends through disease, old age, and accident -- will rise up against the gods at Ragnarok. In the meantime, for her sport, Hel torments these unfortunates, doubtlessly working them to a lather in a kind of boot camp from which they will explode into angry battle against the luckier souls fated to dine in Valhalla.
