This gentleman, the wisest of the Voudoun loa, stands at the crossroads where he interviews the souls of the dead as they travel to paradise. Ghede knows his history better than anyone else because he knows everything the dead know. The spirit possesses dapper sensibilities, dressing in a long, black tail coat and wearing a tall, black hat. He is both a fetility and a mortuary godling. He helps men in love, assists in reproduction, sustains the living, resurrects the dead, and guards cemeteries. HE and his consort Mammon Brigitte protect the dead of their own sex as they rest in the earth. The cross is his special emblem. He likes to crash parties and rituals, disrupting them with obscenity and his insatiable thirst for rum.
