| Atai
Efik
The wife of the jealous supreme god Abassi. She persuaded her paranoid husband to allow the first man and woman to settle on the earth. Abassi agreed, provided that they did not breed nor work nor cook for themselves. (Abassi would ring the dinner bell and they would come to dine in Heaven.) The humans soon grew tired of their lives of enforced leisure and broke Abassi's commandments, thus gaining wisdom and special knowledge for themselves. (Compare this to the Genesis story.) Atai appeased the angry Abassi by introducing death and evil into the world. The first man and woman died. Their children fought among themselves ever after.
