| St. Anne
Christian
Patron saint of cemeteries and widows; also the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her relics were a popular commodity in the 12th Century CE following the rise of the cult of the Blessed Virgin. The disaspora of her remains began earlier, in the 8th Century CE, with their removal from Jerusalem to Rome and Constantinople. Churches in Germany, France, and England claim to possess fragments of her. Martin Luther explicitly denounced her worship in his attacks on church excesses. See St. Michael.
