The great world serpent who, for most of a kalpa (one full day and night of the Supreme god Brahma's time or 8,640,000,000 human years) sleeps in the person of Balarma, the half brother of the Lord Krishna. At the end of the kalpa, Balarma pauses to rest and meditate under a tree overlooking the ocean. Arnanta crawls out of the demigod's mouth, slides into the ocean, and eradicates creation by means of a firey regurgitant.
