The Japanese name for the Buddha of the Pure Land. His followers believe that by invoking the Amida at the moment of their death, they will be granted entry into the "Pure Land" -- a paradise of indescribable spiritual ecstasy and instant readiness for the final ascent to personal Buddhahood.
