The mortal son of the god Ea who was called to heaven after he broke the wings of the South Wind. Ea advised his son to dress in sackcloth, compliment the god Tammuz, and most importantly, eat none of the food or drink offered to him. The young man followed all the advice. He later learned, to his chagrin, that had he partaken of the offered meal, he would have become immortal. His relations with his father were thereafter strained at best.
