| Nirvana
Buddhist
The translation of this word as "annihilation" misleads and horrifies the Western mind. Nirvana stands for a state of existence beyond Final Death, a spiritual state in which the Self does not matter anymore. We go on to being something else that is not like we live in now. The language that we use cannot describe nirvana except as "annihilation" or "nothingness" because our senses can make nothing of it. Nirvana means release from the cycle of birth and death, freedom from the suffering inherent in life. [See The Pure Land]
